Liza is a contemporary visual artist and illustrator living and working in Martinstown, close to the famous Curragh Plains in Co. Kildare, Ireland. Liza began her studies at Grennan Mill Craft School before completing her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art in the Limerick School of Art and Design in 1994.
Working predominantly in acrylics and mixed media on wood panel, Liza produces works which are vibrant and contemporary.
‘The current body of illustrative floral still life paintings are inspired by the works of 17th Century artists Jean Baptiste Monnoyer and Irish botanical artist Wendy Walsh, the surface patterns of the decorative arts of the Arts and Craft movement and the vintage naturalist, botanical and ornithological studies of James Audubon and Gerard van Spaendonck. In these paintings, elements of the symbolic lexicon of historical works marry with Liza’s use of contemporary colour and composition choices.’
Liza has exhibited both nationally and internationally and her work is held in both public and private collections. In 2010 she was chosen as the artist to represent Ireland at ‘Horsemania’ a public art event held in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.
Liza is a founding member of the SULT Artists Collective, a group of multidisciplinary Kildare based artists who come together to promote and exhibit their work.
